Cervical Cancer Screening Methods
ThinPrep (Liquid-Based Cytology)
ThinPrep is a liquid-based cervical cytology test that examines cervical cells for abnormal changes. The collected sample is preserved in a liquid solution before laboratory processing.
Compared with conventional slide-based Pap smears, liquid-based cytology can provide a cleaner sample, making abnormal cells easier to examine and reducing the chance of needing a repeat test because of an inadequate sample.

HPV DNA Testing
HPV DNA testing detects high-risk HPV types associated with cervical cancer. Unlike ThinPrep, which examines cervical cells for abnormalities, HPV DNA testing looks for the presence of the virus.

Co-testing combines cervical cell examination with high-risk HPV testing. Your OB/GYN can help determine whether this option is appropriate for your screening needs.
